Accuracy Versus Precision Practice
- Step 8: Calculate the average of the measured volume of the bottle and input it into your "Measurements and Calculations Table." To find the average of the measured volume of the bottle, just add together all five of the volumes you measured and divide the sum by five. Click HERE to open the "Measurements and Calculations" document.
- Step 9: Calculate the percent error of the measured volume of the bottle and input it into your "Measurements and Calculations Table." To find the percent error subtract the known volume of the bottle (from the label on the bottle) from the average of the measured volume of the bottle. Then, divide the difference by the known volume of the bottle. Finally, multiply the result by 100 to get a percentage. See the formula below. After calculating the percent error of the measured volume of the bottle, input it into the appropriate cell in your "Measurements and Calculations Table" by clicking HERE.
- Step 10: Calculate the range of the measured volume by subtracting the smallest measured volume from the largest measured volume. Input the range into the appropriate cell of your "Measurements and Calculations Table" by clicking HERE.
