Discovering Absolute Zero
The square in the simulation represents a 3-dimensional box. You can imagine the square in the simulation looks like the box shown in the image at the right. The first thing we will do is measure the volume of the box in the simulation. The formula for the volume of a box is volume = length x width x depth. |
To find the volume of the box, we need the length of the box, the width of the box, and its depth. Let's imagine the depth of the box is 5 nanometers.
You will need to measure the length and the width of the box with the ruler tool in the simulation. To open the ruler tool, first click on the "Measurement Tools >>" button in the simulation. See the image at the right. Then, check the box beside "Ruler" on the right-hand side of the simulation. When you have checked the appropriate box, a ruler should appear. See the image below. |
