Displacement is a Vector Quantity
Displacement is a vector quantity. This means that in order to completely express the displacement of an object between two points, we need to include a magnitude, a unit, and a direction.
If my initial position is the sign and my final position is the upper right-hand corner of the screen as shown, my displacement is my final position - my initial position or 2 meters up and to the right. Not only must my displacement include a magnitude (2) and a unit (meters), but my displacement must also include a direction (up and to the right). |
Note: My displacement vector is represented as an arrow with tail at my initial position and head at my final position.
