We were able to make the calculations on the previous page because we made the following assumptions:
Make sure you read and understand the four assumptions above.
- We were able to deal with the dart's horizontal motion separately from its vertical motion.
- We shot the dart horizontally, and so the dart had NO initial VERTICAL velocity.
- Because we were reasonably able to neglect wind resistance, we could assume that the acceleration in the HORIZONTAL direction was ZERO.
- We know the VERTICAL acceleration of the dart is 9.8 m/s/s downward.
