If an observation is quantitative, it involves the use of numbers. Measurement is a form of quantitative observation. In this lab activity, we will practice collecting good sets of measurements,--when we collect a set of measurements, we often refer to this collection of measurements as data--and we will practice interpreting graphical data.

Leonardo da Vinci, like most artists, realized that as the distance between an object and an observer increases, the apparent size of the object decreases. The farther away an object is, the smaller it appears. In this activity, we will find a mathematical relationship which describes the apparent size of an object at increasing distances from the observer. |
