## Identifying Quadratic Equations

**quadratic equation**is defined as an equation with**2**being the**biggest exponent**attached to the independent variable (We usually call the independent variable*x*.)*Officially*, we say that a quadratic equation can be written in the form below.

"a is not equal to zero" simply means that there must be an x-squared term in order for the equation to be quadratic.
