Impulse Can Change Momentum a Little by Making an Object Go Not-So-Fast
Impulse is equal to force multiplied by time. If you want to change an object's momentum (usually velocity) a little bit, you should impart a small impulse to the object, and you can make impulse small by applying a small force over a small time.
If you want to change the velocity of a baseball a little bit, you bunt the ball. In other words, you hit the baseball softly (small force), and you do not follow through with the hit (small time). |
