Non-Free-Fall Motion and Newton's Second Law of Motion
In the image below, the man has been falling for less than one second. Now that he is moving, he does have wind resistance acting on him, but it is relatively small because he is moving slowly. In addition, the total force acting on him now is smaller than it was the instant he left the airplane because wind resistance acts to oppose the force due to gravity.
In the picture above, the net force acting on the man is represented by the green arrow. At the instant the man left the airplane, the net force acting on him was the force due to gravity which is larger in size then the net force which is acting on the man now.
