Scientific Laws Can Change
Scientific laws can and do change. It takes only one contradictory observation or experiment to invalidate a law. For example, Newton's Laws of Motion imply that time can flow only at a constant rate in a forward direction. In other words, at one time, most scientists believed that time could not speed up or slow down. In addition, scientists believed that time could only move forward (never backward).
In his Theory of Special Relativity, Einstein showed that the rate of time can, in fact, change (time can speed up or slow down). Watch the video if you would like to see Michio Kaku explain how we might one day be able to move backward in time, too (not required viewing).
