Non-Free-Fall Motion and Newton's Second Law of Motion
In the image below, the man has been falling for less than one second and is moving relatively slowly. Because he is moving, he does have wind resistance acting on him, but because he is moving SLOWLY, the wind resistance acting on him is SMALL.
Let's think about this. The instant the man left the airplane, he only had one force acting on him: gravity. Now that the man is moving, he has two forces acting on him: gravity and wind resistance.
