Again, we are exploring the relationship between pressure and volume for an ideal gas when the temperature of the gas and the number of gas molecules are held constant. Thus, we need to set up the "Gas Properties" simulation so that both the temperature of the gas and the number of gas molecules are constant.
Let's start by setting temperature as constant in the simulation. To do that, select "Temperature" under "Constant Parameter" in the upper right-hand corner of the simulation screen. See the image at the right. We are also holding the number of gas molecules constant in this experiment. To do that, input the number 100 in the blank to the right of "Heavy Species" underneath "Gas in Chamber" on the right-hand side of the simulation screen. See the image at the right. Click on the image to enlarge it. Hit the "Enter" button on your keyboard to release the gas molecules into the container. |
